WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A PHOTOSHOOT!

If you have not been to a photo shoot, or haven't been photographed by me, you may have a ton of questions! Such as, how will the photo shoot go?? How do we know how to pose for each picture? What happens if my kids don’t cooperate? What measures should we take to make sure the photo shoot goes well?

That is what I am here for! As I always say! “I am here to not only take your photos, but to also help you feel comfortable having them taken.”

HERE’S AN EXAMPLE OF MY FAMILY PHOTOSHOOTS!…

We arrive at the location of the photo shoot. I introduce myself to everyone and try to get a little acquainted with all of you. This is where you can ask your questions, let me know what photos you want for sure, and photos you do not want.

Then we go into the photoshoot itself…

I always start off with the more formal/traditional photos, as these are more posed precisely. You may be thinking "exactly where should I go? Where should I put my hands?" Plus, I have learned through my own experience with my own children, that kids are more apt to listen when someone asks them to smile at the beginning of a session than the end. Feel like your family photos are too ridged and need a good candid photo of your family laughing and having a great time? I have got your covered!

I ask everyone to lean forward and backward together while looking back and forth at each other. This “awkward” movement gets everyone laughing! Who knew this movement could make people laugh and make great photos!

Then I focus on the children. They love to run around and explore! I say let’s do it! I go where they go! They find me following them with my camera snapping pictures so funny! Makes for great candid photos too! We explore the surroundings, such as trees, the grass, the leaves, the snow, their favorite toy they brought. We usually go for strolls if there is more than one child hand in hand. I take pictures in front and from the back. But don’t feel left out parents, you can help out by standing behind me and help me get their attention if needed.

Then I give the children a little break and focus on the parents! This is the time you get to showcase your love for one another, let’s keep that spark. Feeling awkward at this point when I focus my attention on you? That is totally normal! Many times it is due to not knowing how to “pose in front of a camera.” Here’s my secret. I’ll tell you exactly what to do every step of the way!! I’ll give you prompts, here are some examples!

“Ok, I want you to stand next to each other, mom wrap your hands around your husband, and looking at each other with loving eyes and a smile. Go ahead and smile at each other. Mom go ahead and look over at me, dad keep smiling. Now mom, go ahead and gaze up at your husband with loving eyes and a calm smile, and dad look over at the camera with a calm smile. Maybe even a one sided smile. Now place your hands together and intertwine them, I’ll have you place them up and now lean in like you’re going to give each other a kiss, but instead give each other a smile facing each other.” Want that candid photo between you two? I’ll tell my couples to, “Whisper your favorite vegetable in a sexy voice.” Laughs, Every time! And yes, I love a great love story, so I love listening to how my couples met!  I am all ears!

Now it’s time for the children to show their love for their parents or grandparents in this case! “Ok kids, now run up to your parents and give them a big hug! Ok parents go ahead and look at those smiling little faces, now look over at me! Parents love on your kids, and kids look over here!”

Things to remember!! This photoshoot is all about you and your loved ones. You want a certain pose? A certain coupling of your family, such as just the kids, or just the kids with one of each parent? Or you don’t want a certain pose? These responses help me out time and time again! So, don’t hesitate to ask or let me know!!

I also pick up on ques when a couple or family feels uncomfortable in front of the camera. Do not fear! That’s what I am here for. Need to laugh and get a candid photo? I have secrets up my sleeve that may sound crazy at the time, but when you see the final results you will completely understand the process!

As I always say and have said before! “I am here to not only take your photos, but to also help you feel comfortable having them taken.”
